The following is a DRAFT and is simply here to give you a quick view of some of the things we could discuss. This is a DRAFT while the site is under construction and this page will change substantially as it is edited in the future.
I thought you would rather see something, even in a draft form instead of a simple “Under Construction” sign. So with the thought that “something is better than nothing…” here you are.

Priceless Insights, Invaluable Personalized Critiques of YOUR Work.
_______________________________________
Why not simply ask questions or post pictures in an online photography forum?
For many photographers, of all levels, posting their questions that show ignorance (or “lack of knowledge”) or posting their photos that need some help, can be the most sensitive and anxiety ridden way of learning to improve their work.
On-line forums are a partial solution.
Local camera clubs are a partial solution.
Classes taken at a local school are a partial solution.
But each has limitations.
For example, if you post your work on an on-line forum, and it gets either positive or negative critical remarks, how do you value those remarks?
What do you know about the background, skills, experience, understanding of photography and art and business, or success of the person critiquing your photos?
Is that critical remark coming from someone who knows what they are talking about?
_____________
My experience over the years is that there are good and bad things about photography forums.
In some cases they can be very supportive and good places to learn and share information.
In some cases, the forums thrive on critical put-downs of others work. In the worst cases, they discourage people who have lower levels of skill or experience.
In some cases they can be rude and offensive. But, even in the nicest forums, there are sometimes nice comments that don’t carry much “weight” because they don’t come from someone with real experience or real skills or real knowledge. So it is a mix. And it may not offer you the kind of guidance you need to progress.
That is why I decided to start PhotoMentors. What you see today is just one facet of what it will become. I hope you will join me as this develops.
You will get honest guidance and fair critiques of your work to help you see it more objectively and more clearly.
This does not mean I will be “brutally honest” because I believe there is no need to be brutal with anyone.
I will help YOU see the positive aspects of your work and the weaker aspects that you will learn to identify for yourself.
This will make it easier for you to “see” the potential in the future photos you make. My goal is to help you see and reach your true potential and have a better understanding of how to tap into your own creativity. I may even get you to look at photography a different way.
I prefer to give my clients a personal level of motivational help that is patient and meaningful for them. I sincerely want you to ask questions and feel comfortable to do so, by providing you with a comfortable and private connection through which you can discuss your goals, your needs, and your frustrations or challenges in photography. And I will show you that we all learn this way. I will share my experiences with you too, as appropriate, to show you that obstacles can be overcome.
__________________________________
What PhotoMentors is NOT.
You are not buying canned generic assignments that you can find in book at the library.
You are not buying a course that is below your skill level, or above it. You are buying access to a guide who will help you progress from the level you are at now (whatever level) to make progress and grow to the next level for you.
You are not buying lessons on stuff you already know. We work together to identify your strengths and weaknesses and work to make you better.
You are not forced to spend time making photos for assignments that have nothing to do with your chosen specialty in photography. You won’t be asked to photograph babies if you really want to work in fashion.
You are not buying a watered-down photo course from some book or place. This is designed around YOU and your desires and needs and interests.
Students don’t critique your work. A widely known professional does: Steadman.
You are not assigned to an unknown tutor. You are working directly with Steadman.
You are not taught by someone whose work you never get to see. You can see hundreds of examples of Steadman’s work prior to spending a penny.
You are not dealing with an impersonal email-only form of communication. You are able to speak with Steadman directly, live, and RealTime.
You are not required to take tests.
You are not required to submit photos and correspond via email.
You won’t be given phony awards and “Image of the Month” ribbons. You will be given a better sense of how YOU can improve and make better photos.
You are not paying for a worthless unaccredited diploma. Who needs that?

Special Interests
Natural Light Photography
This is Steadman’s Special Interest.
Natural light is everywhere on the planet. You can do this kind of portrait work in a house, in an apartment, outside, in the country or in the city.
Understanding how to use natural light can be challenging to beginners (and some pros). I can show you how to turn any time of the day into a photo opportunity.
I will help you learn how to look for the light and see the quality of light. Learn how to balance light, tones, composition, complexity, and color.
Learn how to have the flexibility to photograph at any time of the day.
Even noon!
You will learn about hard light, soft light, diffused light, bounced light, reflectors, diffusers, and the simple tools and techniques you can use to make natural looking portraits.
The only tools I require you to have are some very inexpensive reflectors and diffusers. You can make these or buy them. No flash will be used. Just the sun. I will coach you on using these tools for striking color or black and white images.

Seven ways you can help other photographers and yourself too!
Have you heard of Karma? It is the belief that all deeds can shape the past, present, and future experiences. In the West, this is sometimes expressed by the Christian concept of “you reap what you sow.” In short, do good to others and good may come to you. I truly believe that helping others helps not only them, but also ourselves in ways we often cannot anticipate. Each action of good you do, can make the world a nicer place. Do you believe in the Golden Rule?
1. Tell others about this site. If you frequent photography forums and see a good opportunity to let people there know about this site, please do. Others who read your favorite forums or blogs may be looking for free lessons and inspiring photographs from which they can learn. Or they may be new to photography forum posting and need some guidance on how to learn more from getting critiques of their photos. Just direct them to www.photomentors.com.
This site is written to inspire photographers of all levels and help them have a better experience in photography.
We even have seven pages devoted to tips on how to have a better experience on a photography forum and those tips may help your favorite forum have better posts and more participation.
2. Please tell at least three of your friends in your community or social network about this site. If you are on Facebook for example, you could tell your friends. They could be at any level of photography. Anybody who likes photography can benefit from the free lessons or from seeing the thousands of inspiring photographs from some of the world’s best photographers. PhotoMentors has things designed to be of interest to ALL levels of photographers from Beginners to Advanced Professionals.
3. Click on one of the social bookmarking links in this page and let others know about this post or page or this new site. Tweet your friends. Tell others you DIGG this site. Tell your Facebook friends. Look in the right column of this page and almost all pages on the site for the link that says “Add This” and click on it to go a pop up list of bookmarking links. It is easy and fast. Or you can send an email to a friend through that link too. Here is another link so you can bookmark this page right now in two clicks of your mouse in two seconds.

Tell others about the thousands of photos by Masters of Photography found here. Remember, our focus is on providing free access to all kinds of photographs and information that will inspire photographers of all levels.
5. Save yourself time while also helping other photographers. In the future you might come across a newbie or someone new to photography. They may be looking for inspiring examples of great photography or they may want some guidance. This site may help them have a better experience with photography too. You won’t have to type much to help them, all you have to do is simply post a link to this site and that may solve their problem with a couple of clicks of your mouse.
